There are some things we do in life every day.  There is no discussion about it.  We do not think about whether we are going to do them or not.  They are just a part of everyday living.  We get up in the morning, and at some point, while we are getting ready to go to school or work, or whatever we have planned for the day, we clean up, get dressed, brush our teeth, comb our hair, etc.  We do this every day, unless something major happens that knocks us out of our daily routine.  We know we are going to do these things before the morning comes.  It is just a part of life.

Christianity involves some things we do every day as well.  One of those things is talking with God.  Being a Christian every day means praying every day.  While prayer itself must be done thoughtfully, whether or not we are going to pray on any given day should be a foregone conclusion.  It should be a part of our daily routine, like brushing our teeth or combing our hair.   Paul simply said we should pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Prayer is a great way to start the day.  We do not know what is to come each day, so praying about it is wise.  We should pray for God’s protection every day.  In fact, there are several things we should pray for daily.  At the top of the list should be the forgiveness of any sins we have committed unknowingly (Leviticus 5:17-19). Being able to pray for such is one of the great privileges of being a child of God.  As Christians, we have ongoing access to the blood of Christ.

1 John 1:6-7 (ESV)
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

This cleansing that John is referring to does not happen automatically.  We must pray to God and ask him for forgiveness (Acts 8:22).  John put it like this:

1 John 1:9 (ESV)
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

This is a blessing reserved for Christians.  We alone have access to the cleansing power of the blood of Christ, as well as His advocacy (1 John 2:1).  So, this prayer for forgiveness is a prayer we should be praying every day.

Every day, we should praise God in prayer, giving Him the respect and reverence He deserves.  Every day, we should thank God through prayer for the many blessings He showers upon us regularly. Every day, we should pray for our families, friends, and even our foes.   I think you get the picture.  Everyday Christianity involves talking to God every day.

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
