The life of Christ was the greatest life ever lived.  It was a life of sinless perfection.

1 Peter 2:22 (ESV)
22  He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.

1 John 3:5 (ESV)
5  You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.

This moral perfection of our Lord is what qualified Him to be our Savior.  He came to this world to be the Lamb of God.  John the Baptist said to his disciples, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).  The Old Testament sacrifices served as a type of the perfect sacrifice of Christ.  God demanded that those sacrifices be without blemish (Leviticus 1:3), foreshadowing the life of Christ.   By living sinlessly, Jesus was in the position to conquer sin on the cross.

Romans 8:3 (ESV)
3  For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

Jesus took on a body of flesh and blood that was just like everybody else.  The Hebrews writer wrote, “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things…” (Hebrews 2:14), and then He said, “Therefore He had to be made like his brothers in every respect…” (ver. 17).  Why did Paul refer to the flesh being sinful?  It was not because man is born with a depraved nature, but because all of mankind corrupted itself by sinning (Genesis 6:12), all except Jesus Who lived sinlessly, allowing Him to condemn sin in the flesh and become the propitiation for mankind (Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:2).

We probably do not emphasize the body of Christ as often as we should.  The Hebrews writer did not hesitate to point out the significance of it

Hebrews 10:5 (ESV)
5  Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me;

And then…

Hebrews 10:10 (ESV)
10  And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Thank God that Jesus was willing to take on flesh, live a perfect life, and become the sin-offering that we so desperately needed.

Jesus was alive before His incarnation.  John said that Jesus came before him, even though he was born after him (John 1:15).  It was His human life, however, that became the light for all men (John 1:4).

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
