Too many people know that the life they are living is not right and that they need to change, but think they will have time to change later.  Do you remember the story of Felix, the Roman governor of Judea?  When Paul was on his way to Rome to stand before Caesar, Felix sent for him and heard him speak about faith in Jesus (Acts 24:24).  After Paul reasoned with Felix about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, the Bible says that he trembled (ver. 25).  Instead of obeying the gospel of Christ, however, he told Paul, “God away for the present.  When I get an opportunity, I will summon you”

Felix thought he had time to spare.  It is the same mistake thousands upon thousands have made over the years.  Felix knew a day of judgment was coming or else he would not have trembled.  He believed Paul’s message, but thought he had time to change.  Many people know nothing about the coming judgment.  The coming of Christ will come upon them like a thief in the night.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 (ESV)
1  Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. 2  For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3  While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

Understandably, the coming of Christ will take those who are not expecting Him by surprise, but it is unconscionable for those who believe He is coming someday to not be ready just because they have been deceived into believing that they have time to change later.

If you are either a non-Christian or a child of God who is not in good standing with Him, the time to change is right now.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (ESV)
2  For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Now is the only time of which we can be sure.  Tomorrow is not promised to anyone.  While we can change now, tomorrow might be too late.  Please take this seriously.  No one but God knows what lies ahead, not even Jesus.

Matthew 24:36 (ESV)
36  “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Furthermore, death can overtake any of us on any given day.  James warns us about this.

James 4:14 (NKJV)
14  whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Don’t make the critical mistake of thinking that you will have time to change later.  The devil wants you to believe this.  If you need to change, do it right now while you have the opportunity.

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
