There was an article on the internet (actually it was only a heading and a picture) that got over 44,000 responses in a short period of time.  The heading said, “What Jesus Says about Homosexuality.”  The picture was that of a blank Bible.  The picture implied that Jesus did not condemn homosexuality.  The implication, however, is wrong.  The very presence of Jesus here on earth was a condemnation of sin.  Jesus, came here “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).  Why were people lost when Jesus came to earth, and why do people continue to be lost today?  The answer is sin.  It is sin that separates one from  God (Isaiah 59:1-2).  Sin is, in fact, the only thing that would cause anyone to be lost.  The only question to be asked is, “Is homosexuality a sin?”  The answer to that question is clearly revealed on the pages of inspiration.  The Bible declares that homosexuality is, not only sinful, but unnatural (Romans 1:26-27).   It is listed as a sin that will prevent one from entering the kingdom of heaven.

1 Corinthians 6:9 (ESV)
9  Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,

There has never been a time when homosexuality was not a sin in the eyes of God (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13).

The notion that homosexuality is not condemned by Christ, because He never spoke about the issue directly, is flawed on many levels.  First, Jesus did condemn fornication (Matthew  5:32; 19:9), which is a general term that refers to illicit or unlawful sexual intercourse (Vines, Thayer, etc.).  Since sex is only lawful within the confines of marriage (Hebrews 13:4), and since marriage is biblically defined as the union of a man and a woman (Genesis 2:22-25), homosexual activity is, according to God’s Word, a form of fornication.  Thus, when Jesus condemned fornication, He was condemning homosexuality.

Furthermore, it must be remembered that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God (2 Timothy 3:16).  Since Jesus is God, that is, He is a member of the Godhead that produced the scriptures, whenever any scripture condemns homosexuality, it is Jesus doing the condemning, along with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  As we have already seen, there are passages of scripture in both the Old and New Testaments that condemn this particular sin specifically.

We should also not forget that whatever is taught by the apostles of Christ were His teachings since the apostles were merely His messengers.  Jesus once told them, “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me” (Luke 10:16).  This is why the apostles are referred to as “ambassadors of Christ.”  Ambassadors are official representatives of a government or sovereign.  In the case of the apostles, they represented Christ and therefore spoke in His name.  Thus, when they condemned homosexuality, they were doing so in His name.  When Paul said that homosexuals would not inherit the kingdom of God, he was merely delivering a message for Jesus.

Finally, the ploy of showing a blank Bible to emphasize that Jesus never actually said anything about homosexuality, proving somehow that He did not condemn it, is a desperate attempt to justify a flawed and untenable position.  First, the reason Jesus never mentioned the sin of homosexuality by name, is because, within the Jewish communities where He taught, no one viewed homosexuality as anything other than sin.  Secondly, if Jesus not mentioning something meant that He approved of it, we would be forced to conclude that He approved of all kinds of immoral activity.  Jesus never mentioned by name bestiality, incest, pornography, rape, etc.  What proves too much, proves nothing at all.  The fact is Jesus, being morally perfect and pure of heart, condemned, by His very life, any form of immorality, and according to God’s Word, homosexuality is immoral.   Our job as Christians is to win souls to Christ, including those who are mired in the sin of homosexuality.
