Have you ever tried to talk someone into eating something for the first time?  We all probably know someone, usually one of our children or grandchildren, who is very picky when it comes to the food they will eat.  They know what they like and have no desire to try anything new.  There is nothing wrong with that, except they miss out on some delightful tasting food just because they will not broaden their horizons when it comes to food consumption.  When we are trying to get them to give in and try something different for a change, we sometimes say to them, “just try it!”

David tries to get us to do this with the Lord.

Psalm 34:8 (ESV)
8  Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

There are many applications we can make with this, beginning with God Himself.  If you have not tried God, what do you have to lose?  Just try It!  Obey the gospel of Christ by repenting of your sins and being baptized (Acts 2:38), and try living your life for God.  You will never be disappointed for doing so (Romans 10:11).  You will probably say to yourself, “I wish I had done this years ago.”  To taste the Lord is to partake of all the wonderful spiritual blessings that come from having a relationship with Him (Ephesians 1:3-11).

If you are already a child of God, but you have never really bought into giving yourself fully to the Lord, just try it?  You will discover a whole new level of joy and satisfaction if you start putting God before everyone and everything else in your life.  It is the only way to live as a Christian.  The truth is, there is no such thing as casual Christianity.  If you are serving God half-heartedly, you are not serving God at all.  The only way you will reap the full benefits of being a child of God is if you give God your all.

Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

If you feel like your faith is lacking a little bit, and it just seems like you are not as strong spiritually as you would like to be, try spending more time reading your Bible.  You might think that it will not do very much good to read your Bible every day but just try it.  The Word of God is our main source for developing and cultivating our faith.

Romans 10:17 (ESV)
17  So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Reading the Word of God is time well spent.  It will help you draw nearer to God and give you the strength to resist the devil.  The Word is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17).  But, it will not help you unless you fill your heart with it.  If your mind is filled with God’s Word, the devil will not be able to defeat you.  David once said,   “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”  Just try it!

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
