Do not hold it against me, but, having been born and raised in California, I am a life-long Lakers fan.  I am excited to say that they have a new coach.  Not that their old coach was bad; he actually did a really good job, and even won a championship during his short tenure with the Lakers.  It became obvious, however, that with their new personnel they needed a new voice as well.  It is way too early to know if their new coach will be successful, but I do like one of the main messages that he has been preaching to the team so far.  The message is ACCOUNTABILITY.

The message of accountability is important in every walk of life, but never more than when we are dealing with God; and make no mistake about it, we will all, sooner or later, have to deal with Him.  In other words, no one is excluded from being accountable to God, not even those who do not recognize it.

Hebrews 4:13 (ESV)
13  And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Notice, it is not that we should give account, but we must give account.  We should also take note of the fact that nothing is hidden from God.  He knows everything about every living creature so that nothing we ever do goes unnoticed by Him.

Psalm 139:2-4 (ESV)
2  You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3  You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 4  Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.

How are you living your life?  Have you obeyed the gospel of Christ (Romans 1:16), and, if so, are you walking worthy of your call (Ephesians 4:1)?  We should live every day of our lives in view of the fact that we will have to answer for our conduct someday.  Man may not care how we live, but God does.  We may get away with doing wrong when it comes to our parents, our teachers, or our bosses on the job.  We can fool brethren, deceive elders, and fake out preachers, but we can never hide our deeds from the one that really matters; the one to whom we must give account.

Romans 14:10-12 (ESV)
10  Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11  for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” 12  So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Yes, a day of judgment is coming (Acts 17:30-31; 2 Corinthians 5:10), and it will be universal.  John saw a great white throne (the judgment seat of Christ) and the dead, great and small, standing before it, waiting to be judged.  We will all be a part of that number, waiting to give an account for the lives that we lived.  Are you ready for that day?  Our accountability to God is real.  Let’s live our lives like we know it.

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
