Revelation 2:10 (ESV)
10  Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Peter once warned us about the activeness of Satan.

1 Peter 5:8 (ESV)
8  Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

The devil does not care who it is.  He just wants someone to feed his insatiable appetite for the souls of men.  He is always on the prowl, so we must, as Peter wrote, be watchful.

True disciples will be just that—watchful, always on guard for the next attack from “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), and will, for the most part, avoid his fiery arrows.  Yes, we all sin from time to time (1 John 1:8), but as long as we are disciples of Christ, we will not continue in sin, or, as John said, make a practice of sinning.

1 John 3:9 (ESV)
9  No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.

Whenever one makes a practice of sinning, he stops being a disciple of Christ.  This is how I know that disciples are faithful unto death.  We never stop learning from and following Him.  The moment we do, we really cannot call ourselves disciples.  While the flesh might get the best of us once in a while, we will not allow it to dominate us.  Instead, when we sin, we will repent and get right back on track.  This is how disciples of Christ run the race of Christianity.

Hebrews 12:1 (ESV)
1  Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Endurance is the key to discipleship.  We do not follow Jesus once in a while, but every day.  Walking in His steps is our way of life.  We take advantage of God’s help and make the right decisions, thereby living acceptably before Him.  One such help is His precious Word.

Notice, in 1 John 3:9 that the reason we do not practice sin is that God’s seed abides in us.  That seed is the Word of God (Luke 8:11).  As long as it is in us, we will not make a habit of sinning, but will instead be faithful unto death.  How do we keep that Word in our hearts?  By studying and meditating on it regularly.  If we do that, we will be disciples to the end.

Psalm 119:98-99 (ESV)
98  Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. 99  I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
