John 14:1-3 (ESV)
1  “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2  In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

In this passage, Jesus is in the upper room with His apostles.  He has revealed some very disturbing things to them.  He told them that one of them was going to betray Him, that He was going away, and that they could not, at the present time, follow Him.  These things would greatly disturb the apostles, causing their hearts to be troubled.

The feelings the disciples had are not foreign to us.  We have all been confused by the perplexities of life.  Jesus can help.  No one can fix our problems or relieve our pain better than Him.  In the passage above, Jesus spoke inspiring words that should comfort all of us.  In our Father’s house, there are many rooms. Jesus is not emphasizing the size of our places of abode in heaven, as the King James Version implies, but rather the availability of the rooms.  We do not have to worry that all the rooms will be filled before we get to heaven because there is plenty of room in the Father’s house.  We never have to worry about seeing a “no vacancy” sign.  As long as we have made our reservation by obeying the gospel of Christ, and have preserved the reservation by walking in the light, our room is ready and our place is prepared.

Our place in heaven has been prepared.  Jesus went to the cross, preparing the way for us by paying the price for sin on the cross.  All we have to do is serve God until He comes back, and come back He will.  Jesus said, “…if it were not so, I would have told you.”

It is inspiring to know that we have a home waiting for us in heaven—A place of perfect peace and rest; a place of safety and security where we never have to worry about our adversary, the devil, again; a place of perfect love, where we love everyone and everyone loves us.  These are all common traits of a happy home, and heaven will be the happiest, most idealistic home of which we have ever been a part.  Yes, life can get chaotic and troublesome.  As Paul said, we all groan in this physical tabernacle due to the burdens of life (2 Corinthians 5:4).  The good news, however, is that whatever we go through in this world, will all be forgotten when we get to our heavenly home.  Paul put it like this:

Romans 8:18 (ESV)
18  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

However life is treating you, let not your heart be trouble!  Something better has been prepared for you.

As you wind down for the night, think about these things.
